Insurance For Pets

People often ask me if they should get insurance for their pets.  After I say, "Yes" the questions continue with what is the top dog insurance company, should I buy pet insurance for my puppy, what about pet insurance for multiple dogs?

I am going to try to help guide you to find out what will be the best dog insurance for your dog.  Ok, Im going to try to help you know what to look for & consider when purchasing pet insurance.  This will not be a pet insurance review.  Each family is different in their needs & each dog & dog breed varies with their medical care & hereditary & congenital conditions.

The coverage I look for when choosing a pet insurance plan for Dexter The Dog:
  • hereditary & congenital conditions
    More Info
  • veterinary exam fees
  • diagnostic treatments
  • surgery
  • medications
  • imaging
  • cancer treatments
  • rehab
  • alternative treatments
  • specialists
After insuring the pet insurance company offered these things, then I needed to find out their limits for each condition & the deductible and the monthly premium.  I ended up with Petplan USA and I have been more than satisfied.  We have the Bronze plan & pay about $35/month.  Paperwork is a breeze & customer support is amazing & they always return my inquiries (I email) that day.

Some other US Pet Insurers include  Petplan USA, Healthy Paws, Embrace, Trupanion, Pets Best, ASPCA, VPI, Petfirst Healthcare, AKC....so you can see there is a big list to wade through.  I suggest taking your time & reading the benefits carefully & the limits.  If you decide to go with  Petplan USA, please click the link & use promo code:  AFF00132 for a 10% discount!  If you have any problems, please let me know prior to enrolling.  :)

Meet My Pets Zeus Kai

I wanted to dedicate a post to my pets, however lame that might seem to some. They are a huge part of my life and I love them both dearly. It was both of their Birthdays recently which is why Ive chosen now to introduce them to you all. They do more for me than I ever could for them, so I keep these two very close to my heart. Im done with the soppy talk now (I promise). Keep reading if you want to hear some of the funny/odd things these two get up to on a daily basis.

Zeus

He’s a Ragdoll by breed and clingy dog-cat by nature. What do I mean by that exactly?! Ragdolls are known to be clingy and boy they weren’t joking, this fluff-ball follows me everywhere I go. He often decides that my lap looks like the perfect place to nap when I’m sat on the toilet. He sleeps on the bed with me at night, sometimes he even sleeps in the bed with me. Burrowing under the duvet to sleep by my feet when it gets chilly. He watches me cook and he sometimes braves a peek when I’m grooming dogs.

He turned 2 in October but he still acts like a kitten, chasing his favourite spider toy and going crazy with his catnip beaver. He is the household pest eradicator, he kills any spiders that dare come near him. He likes to groom my head and face and sometimes my hands. Which is really sweet if not a little rough sometimes. He will drink from my bedside drink and if it’s not full enough he will knock it off of the side table annoyed. He will also wake me up in the morning if he thinks I’ve slept too long by wailing loudly and stealing my makeup brushes off of my vanity! The little monster.

He knows when I’m feeling under the weather. He puts up with my endless cuddles and smooches on his head, he even lets me burrow my face in his tummy when I’m really upset. He even tolerates my terrible singing on occasion. So Zeus this is dedicated to you, thanks for putting up with me being a crazy cat lady.

Kai

Also known as Kai Pie (because hes my little puddin pie duh). He is a Sprocker (Springer x Cocker Spaniel) so he is full of beans pretty much 95% of the time. He turned 1 today! He loves life, this little rebel really brightens my days with his silliness and zest for life.

He likes to perch on the arm of my living room chairs to keep and eye on things and to get cuddles. He likes to try and share his toys and blankies with you. Seriously, he will try and put his blanket and toys in your mouth, while wagging his tail frantically excited to be sharing his favourite items with you. Peculiar? Yes. But oh so adorable. He loves chasing his tail, eating raw carrots, jumping in fields of tall grass and learning new tricks.

Long walks on the beach with Kai are not only fun and great exercise for him, but relaxing and head clearing for me too. He’s very clever, it never takes him long to learn a new trick. He knows all of the usual and a few others such as ‘Bang where he plays dead. He’s currently learning to stand on his back paws with his arms up to ‘Beg’.

He’s stubborn, and for a while he had a sock and panty obsession (much to my embarrassment when we had guests over). And some days he decides he won’t listen to a word I say. But I wouldn’t change my puppy dog for the world. My life is better with him in it and his antics and zest for life help me over come some of my own demons.

I hope you enjoyed the little insight to my world while living with these two. What funny/naughty shenanigans do your pets get up to?

Pets On The Go Travel Bag Review

This week I took over Dexter The Dogs review. Since this review isnt something Dexter can eat, I figured Id be the best one to review Pets On The Go Travel Bag. Since Dexter and I travel a lot, and Dexter has a lot of gear I am thrilled to be able to talk about a dog travel bag. So, lets get to it.

The Classic Bone Brown pet travel bag is about 22 inches across, 14 inches tall and 4 inches wide. When holding it and looking inside, it looks like it will hold Dexters travel gear such as his H2O4K9 stainless steel dog travel bowl, doggie poop bags, 50 leash, dog treats and dog toys. The dog bone bag fits all this gear, but couldnt quite fit Dexters travel cooler bag that holds his home cooked dog food.

The dog travel bag has a main pouch, two half-pockets on one side of the outside, a full-length pocket on the other side of the outside, and a length-adjustable carrying strap. Obviously, this dog bag is super cute and fits my personal style.

The biggest downside for me is that the main pouch is secured with a piece of
Velcro. I would have appreciated the main pouch to have a zipper so that Dexters belongings would be secure without a chance of falling out. When I travel and pack my small car, I never know how something is going to be backed, and sometimes my luggage is upside down.  However, if you want to have easy reach-in access to be able to grab a toy or treat, this would work great.

The pet luggage is reinforced so it stands upright on its own, which made packing a breeze. The bag is also very light, about 1.4 pounds. Pets On The Go travel bags are made in the U.S.A. from military grade 1000 denier nylon Cordura. Which makes this bag tough, durable, washable, water repellent, and fade resistant.

Now that I have the Pets On The Go Travel Bag, Im ready to hit the road with my favorite side-kick. Our next big travel is in a few weeks, where I will be speaking at the World Of Pets Expo on treating dog separation anxiety. I cant wait to put this dog travel bag to the test. I have high hopes. I might even steal it from Dexter and use it as my own personal computer bag!

Pros: Durable, great size, lightweight, manufactured I n U.S.A. And super cute.
Cons: Would have preferred a zipper enclosure.
